4) The Brownie and the Princess and Other Stories by Louisa May Alcott - A rather sweet set of stories with a generally school-room air about them. There is some moralizing but it isn't usually too blatant and doesn't disrupt the story (much). The characters are simple as you would expect in stories of this sort but the bulk of it all is quite charming. Practically no magic in these stories, though, so they aren't fairy tales but they have a similar feel so maybe nursery tales? There are also a lot of feisty girls so I approve of that.
5) Nicholas St North and the Battle of the Nightmare King by William Joyce - Soooo charming. Descriptive and warm and fun. I've been meaning to read this series but talked myself numerous times out of buying them. Luckily, the library has them. I finally made the jump to reading them after I blew through the lovely Jack Frost picture book on a slow day at the Bookshop (before Christmas started, naturally).
6) E. Aster Bunnymund and the Warrior Eggs at the Earth's Core by William Joyce - Soooo charming again. Though I was a bit struck by how relatively light it seemed on the Bunny in a book with him in the title. Huh.
