2 more books of very differing natures.

Profiles In Murder: An FBI Legend Dissects Killers and Their Crimes by Russell Vorpagel as told to Joseph Harrington - One of my AAUW finds. Overall it was fascinating but a really strange read. It read very much like a slice-of-life class lecture, almost like fiction rather than non-fiction. Which really made ex-agent Vorpagel seem like a character in a novel or movie, Jodie Foster with a beard, as it were. I think the thing that really got interesting was when he dropped hints about cases that ended up shaping his outlook and career.

Phule's Company by Robert Asprin - A humorous sci-fi tale about the Space Legion and it's biggest misfits. Okay. I have a shameful confession. I'm totally crushing on a man named Willard Phule. I pretty much know this book is not stellar and there are precious few things in the way of flaws for Phule but my heart doesn't care. I love him and his twisty mind and hyperactive attitude and acceptance and Pollyanna meets Indy Jones approach to life. He's charming as hell which is probably how there came to be sequels. Not to mention his crew are darling, too, and I would kill to find out more about them. Asprin has a strange tendency to avoid most physical descriptions in this book - not much in the way of hair color, facial features, etc unless necessary or part of the joke. Lots of vague body hints but... It's kind of fun because I can picture things how I want. I think Phule kinda looks like Peter Wingfield. ^_^ There also might be extra points for reminding me of Sayers' Wimsey and Bunter (read: definitely). And I genuinely enjoyed the flow and watching everyone interact. Then again, I'm the girl who eats up slice-of-life stories with very little plot so it might not be for everyone. Just like the last, say, 40 pages threw me for a loop with a sudden actual kind-of plot. I knew that, technically, something should happen in the book but it felt weird to have it there. It was so fast, too. Bing, bam, boom. I'll take more company hijinks, please.
